Established in 2016, Women of Rhythm is the World’s first concert series for female percussionists that honours their spirit and challenges.
The concept marks the beginning of a revolution in the percussion industry in India which has been a male dominated industry since its inception. For the Hyderabad edition, TRS MP Kalavakuntla Kavitha ,who is known to be a pioneer in instilling a sense of pride among women and youth by promoting arts & cultural heritage, conveyed her best wishes to the artistes while unveiling the concert poster. She has congratulated the team for bringing these wonderful women artists to Hyderabad.
In the first 3 Seasons, Women of Rhythm has featured 20 of India’s leading female percussionists. From Ananya Patil on Drums, to Vidhvan, Sukanya Ramagopal on Ghatam, to duo Mahima Upadhyay & Savani Talwalkar on the Pakhawaj and Tabla,Charu child prodigy Rahitha on Chenda and many many more. They have garnered a great fan base of well- wishers & supporters as well as phenomenal media coverage.
4th Edition will see more ladies with their instruments like Vidhvan. Dandamudi Summathi Ramamoha Rao on Mridangam who hails from Vijaywada and Vidhvan Sukkanya Ramgopal on Ghatam, who is the senior most student of Vidhvan Vikku Vinayakram and some young blood like Mitali Khargoankar on Tabla, Debopriya Ranadive on Flute,Chandana Bala on the Vocals, the line up was curated keeping the Hyderabad audience in mind and also the fact that March is the month of International Women’s day, what better way to celebrate and cherish these musicians.
Eleven Point Two, a Hyderabad based entertainment company who is into organizing large format concerts and have successfully executed shows of Isaignaani Padma Vibhushan Ilaiyaraaja, Padmashri Shobana and Padma Vibhushan Yesudas, in the past have partnered with Women Of Rhythm and shown immense support by producing and executing the show. Hyderabad based Motivity Labs is co-presenting the event along with Eleven Point Two.
